Pride

One thing I struggle with more than almost anything else is pride. C.S. Lewis describes pride as "the great sin" and, indeed, the very first sin (when, in Heaven, Satan became Satan by seeking God's glory for himself). Pride seems to be at the core of most sin.

It is not fun: I am finding more and more pride in myself! Which makes me feel like I'm moving backwards.

It is tempting to focus on my pride in order to root it out. But I know that that is not the solution. The solution is to focus on and go to God; to remember the cross, his grace, the example of his Son (Phil. 2:5-11), his Spirit, his glory and his all-sufficiency.

"He must become greater; I must become less." - John 3:30

Thank you, Lord, for who you are. Thank you for not giving up on us. Thank you that you want to use us. Help us to depend on you and make us more like you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Hi Nigel,

this is my first time here.. Laurel K pointed me here..

I recently read a different perspective on the same thought (in The Shack, I think) that says "sin is all about control".

I like the way you finished your post. It is all about Father completing the work He started in us.

I think, simply the fact that you're aware of your pride means you're on the path to laying it down.

If I can encourage you to not let anything move you away from living this relational life with Dad. We can't do anything without Him doing it in us (not anything lasting anyway) - and it's in resting in Him that we get to really live Life - because "His yoke is easy, and His burden is light".

Hang in there and don't beat yourself up too much. As long as you're available to what Dad is doing in you, He'll do it in His time.
