South Africa Update #3: Two men profess to believe
Imagine telling an old man the gospel who had never heard it before and then seeing him come to Christ.
This was my experience on Tuesday. I was in the mostly-AIDS wards at the local hospital here in Pretoria again, and it was my joy to see two men--this older man and a younger man--commit their lives to Christ. My prayer partner Stephen and I were also able to encourage and recommission to greater commitment two or three other men who had already been saved.
Earlier in the week, on Monday, I was run off my feet serving AIDS patients meals and hot drinks. It was a tiring morning; we had a lot of 'customers'!
My girlfriend Lydia (whose passion is refugees and whose heart is for Africa) is joining me from the UK on Saturday morning--woohoo!--and later on that day we are flying to Zambia where I will be seeing my parents for the first time in more than two years. Looking forward to it! We'll be spending nine days in Zambia - including a few days in Mansa, where my parents are based and where I lived for three or four years as a high-schooler.
I will be writing an official prayer letter soon. It has been difficult so far--and still--because of a degree of uncertainty about the future, but "God knows."
Thanks for your prayers. - Nigel
