Ifimuti
Thought y'all might be interested in this excerpt from my parents' (missionaries in Zambia) most recent family letter. My mum writing:
"Monday was the streetgirl [prostitute] outreach into Mansa East area. There had been 46 girls (not counting small babies) the previous week and it was so noisy at the meeting that I decided to write Bemba signs that said "Be quiet" and "Keep the children quiet" to hold up if neccessary. I asked Amon to attach them to sticks, which in Bemba is the same word for big trees (ifimuti). Well, he went out and nailed them to the trees on the mission property! Please remember this ministry in your prayers. Many of the streetgirls have HIV/AIDS.
"At morning tea time there was quite some discussion among the workers about the new rules for quiet and discipline at Mansa Mission! They were all relieved when I explained that the signs were to take to the street girl meetings. Anyway, the meeting went well. There were 65 present."
