Birthday Tribute to Ted by Dave Sutherland

I thought I would include this birthday tribute to Ted by Dave Sutherland (received today) with some very recent pictures (click for full size) of Ted et al in Zambia (below).

Dave's tribute reminded me of this verse: "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." - 1 Thess 5:11

Here's Dave:

Ted Barham is an enigma, a paradox. Fiercely loyal and steady, and yet incredibly adventurous. Never ever flippant but an nonetheless an incurable clown. Grounded but flexible. Reserved but outrageous.

One of my favourite Ted moments illustrates the joy of knowing such a man and his unique set of contradictions.

One night, as the section head of a summer camp for inner city kids, I heard a lot of noise coming from the cabin where Ted was counseling. I came closer and put my ear on the door to hear if it was good noise or bad noise. It was definitely good. Ted Barham was streaming a live devotional rap for the kids pre bedtime meditation and the kids were going nuts. They were loving it.

Hearing a colonialist classics scholar using his linguistics might in order to communicate the gospel to hoodlums in an art form not his own was a mind-blowing moment for me in the understanding of "cross cultural missions". Ted is ready to be used of God and he defies categories. We worship the Lord for the many years of delicious Ted and hope for many to come.

Loving the glorious verbage of the Rizzo. Just think Ted, your rap skills would still be infintesimal if it wasn't for the Rizzo rap getting the ball rolling.

Happy Birthday Ted, it was nice to chat with you on Nigel's cell phone!! May the Lord keep you for many years to come!
